Description

Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon is a premium, high-altitude Argentine wine known for its elegance, complexity, and aging potential.

Origin and Vineyards

Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon is produced by Bodega Catena Zapata in Mendoza, Argentina, from carefully selected rows in historic high-altitude vineyards located in Agrelo, Villa Bastías, and Altamira. The vineyards sit between 950 and 1,120 meters above sea level, with soils ranging from alluvial gravel to limy and stony textures, which contribute to the wine’s minerality and structure, The grapes undergo rigorous selection, and only the best clusters are used, ensuring exceptional quality

Production and Composition

The wine is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with a small addition of Cabernet Franc (around 8%), which enhances complexity and rounds out the palate The grapes are hand-harvested, and the wine is unfined and unfiltered, preserving its natural flavors and structure. Catena Alta wines are produced in limited quantities, emphasizing quality over volume.

Tasting Profile

Catena Alta Cabernet Sauvignon is medium to full-bodied, with aromas of black currant, black raspberry, plum, chocolate, and subtle herbal notes. The palate is structured and elegant, featuring silky tannins, layers of cedar, tobacco, and leather, and a long, persistent finish. Critics describe it as fresh, mineral-driven, and poised, with a balance of depth and finesse suitable for both immediate enjoyment and long-term aging
